Real ‘levelling up’: getting a more democratic, flourishing future for the North

The 2021 Hannah Mitchell Foundation Annual General Meeting will be held on Saturday 4th December. It will be preceded by a public meeting.

Paul Salveson will chair a panel discussion on the role of radical devolution and democratic reform for the North of England to address the social, economic, climate and democratic emergencies facing the region, featuring guest speakers:

  • Natalie Bennett, Green Party member of the House of Lords and former party leader
  • Alex Sobel, Labour MP for Leeds North West
  • Thelma Walker, former Labour MP for Colne Valley, independent candidate for the Hartlepool by-election supported by the Northern Independence Party, and chair of PAL – Progressive Alliance of the Left
  • Neil McInroy, Senior Global Fellow, Democracy Collaborative and Peoples Powerhouse

The public meeting will run from 10.30 – 11.30am, and be followed by the HMF AGM from 11.40am – 12.30pm.

Due to the Covid situation, the whole event will be held online, register on Eventbrite here to be sent the Zoom link:

The AGM will feature the report of our activities in 2021, a debate on our policy towards strengthening the North’s democracy and getting regional devolution for the North (and on any other resolutions submitted by members), and the election of a new Steering Group for 2022.

We are keen to broaden and strengthen the HMF’s membership and Steering Group. If you are interested in making a contribution to HMF’s work campaigning for the North’s democratic rights, then please do consider putting yourself forward for the Steering Group at the AGM.
